Netflix is set to discontinue support for several older iPhones and iPads, as the company moves forward with updates requiring devices to run iOS 17 or iPadOS 17. Here is everything that you need to know about this.
This change only affects users who own iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, first-generation iPad Pro, and the 5th-generation iPad, all of which are unable to update beyond iOS 16 or iPadOS 16. These users will no longer receive updates, new features, or bug fixes for the Netflix app, although the current version of the app will still function.
While affected devices can continue using the existing app, they will miss out on any improvements or bug resolutions that come with future updates. Despite the app discontinuation, users can still access Netflix through a web browser, ensuring they are not completely cut off from the service.
This move comes as part of Netflix’s broader efforts to focus on newer software versions and improve the overall user experience. The discovery of this upcoming change was made by a MacRumors contributor who found code strings in the latest version of the Netflix app.
Although Netflix has yet to confirm the exact timing for the support termination, it is expected to happen soon. For users who wish to continue receiving the latest Netflix updates, upgrading to devices that support iOS 17 or iPadOS 17 will be necessary.
Besides, Reliance Jio recently launched new prepaid plans that offer Netflix for free. The Rs 1299 Jio prepaid plan offers 2GB daily data, unlimited voice calls, 100 SMS per day. The new recharge plan offers unlimited 5G data and 2GB daily 4G data. The pack comes with a validity period of 84 days.
The more expensive pack, the Rs 1799, will offer you 3GB of data per day and unlimited calling as well. It also includes 100SMS per day. This one too gives unlimited 5G data and 3GB of 4G data. The plan will remain valid for 84 days. It is worth noting that both plans offer different (free) Netflix plans to users. The Rs 1299 Jio prepaid plan offers free access to the Netflix Mobile pack and the Rs 1799 plan includes the Netflix Basic plan.
